Then there's the legacy of the late restaurateur Nick Tahou, for more than half a century operating Rochester's premier hot dog stand with a signature dish best known as the Garbage Plate, a remarkably messy combo of dog, burger, or steak (with or without cheese), heaped high with baked beans, home fries, macaroni salad, spicy chili sauce, mustard, and a handful of raw onions. For more traditional tastes in family dining, ethnic options, steakhouses, and finer fare, Rochester has a line-up of restaurants to please. Rochester also is home to super-caffeinated Jolt Cola, Genny Beer (now produced by High Falls Brewing Company) and a host of wines from the Finger Lakes wine trails to accompany meals.
